2017 year

Cochrane Pony Club had again a good year in 2017. We again had 33 members. We have organized a couple of events and the Regional events were reasonably attended by Cochrane Pony Club members. We organized 30 riding lessons for our riders in the Summer and 12 during the winter months.

We started in the winter season with our stable management program, that was taught by three of our older members: Eline, Emily and Kathryn.

The Regional Quiz was attended by 7 of our members. All of the kids went home with a ribbon. Peter was our only Junior and won his division. Kathryn competed in Intermediate and qualified to go to National Quiz in BC. There she did a great job representing the Region.

This year we organized a Dressage clinic with Shelley Malboeuff. This clinic was also attended by members from other clubs in the Region

Of course we also had our summer camp again in July. It was a bit smaller than usual, but we had great instructors both for the riding and stable management portion of the lessons. It is great to see how quickly the riders progress during an intensive week like this.

Cochrane Pony Club was well represented during the championships in Claresholm and our riders did very well in all disciplines offered.

During the dressage competition the boys did well in the Pretraining division with Nathan ending in second and Peter in fourth place. In the Training division Amber F came in third and in the First division Brooke came in third as well.
In show jumping Amber M came second in the 2'3" division and Eline came third in the 2'9" division, Taylor won the 3' division and Brooke came third in the 3'6" division. All our other riders went home with ribbons as well and I think all had a great time in Claresholm.

This year we organized a PPG play day for our members. It was great fun to see a couple of our riders dress up and have fun with their ponies and horses.

We had 15 kids test up a level this year. They all had great marks! Taylor achieved full C2 level, Kathryn got her C2 flat and Emily C2 stable management. Faith, Brooklyn and Amber F tested to C. Holly and Amber M tested to C stable management, Peter and Hannah tested to D2 level. Rachel tested to D1 level (C SM), Leah tested to D1 level (D2 SM) and Nathan tested to D1 level. Soleil and Reese tested to D level. Congratulations everyone!

2016 year

Cochrane Pony Club had again a very active year in 2016. We had 33 members this year. We have organized a couple of events and the Regional events were well attended by Cochrane Pony Club members. We organized 30 riding lessons for our riders in the Summer and 12 during the winter months.

We started in the winter season with two clinics for our members: a nutrition clinic by Amanda Kroeker and a lunging and bandaging clinic.

The Regional Quiz was attended by 13 of our members. All of the kids went home with a ribbon.

The first show we organized was the Show Jumping Show in May. We held it outside this time and luckily the weather cooperated.

Of course we also had our summer camp again in July. It is great to see how quickly the riders progress during an intensive week like this.

Cochrane Pony Club was well represented during the championships in Claresholm and our riders did very well in all disciplines offered.

On the Friday Cassia, Holly and Amber won the D, D1 and D2 divisions of the equitation division. New on Friday was the Prix Caprilli, won by Cassia and Keira in D and D1 division.
On Saturday Faith won the starter dressage division and Kathryn won the Training division dressage. This qualifies Kathryn for participation in the National dressage competition in 2017.
In show jumping Nathan won the 2'3" division and Taylor the 3' and Marguerite the 3'3" division. A lot of our other riders went home with ribbons as well and I think all had a great time in Claresholm.

This year we organized a Hunter play day for our members and the Region. It was great fun to see teams of two and three go over the jumps and to see how long the kids could hold on to their dollar bills in the bareback dollar race.

We had 14 kids test up a level this year. They all had great marks! Marguerite achieved C2 level and Kathryn got her C2 stable management. Maddy tested to C (C1 SM). Holly, Chloe, Gemma Faith and Brooklyn tested to D2 level, Amber to D2 SM. Hannah, Erik and Keira tested to D1 and Paige and Rebecca tested to D level. Congratulations everyone!

2015 year

Cochrane Pony Club had a very active year in 2015. We have organized a lot of events and the Regional events were well attended by Cochrane Pony Club members.

We started our season with Regional Quiz. We had a lot of kids participate in the Regional Quiz and all of the kids went home with a ribbon. We did especially well in the Snurf division, grabbing the first four places for Faith, Avery, Keira and Erik.

The first show we organized was the Show Jumping Show in April. This show was well attended and we introduced a new class to the regular clear round, against the clock and match the clock, which is called hit-and-hurry. Within a set time of 1 mount the riders had to jump as many jumps as possible to accumulate points. It was great to watch.

Of course we also had our summer camp again in July. This camp is very popular with the riders and it is amazing to see how quickly the riders progress during an intensive week like this. We had some guests from other pony clubs in the region join us as well for the week.

This year we managed to put a little more focus on dressage. We had a clinician from BC helping the kids with their dressage skills and we did a ride a test day where the kids could practice riding a dressage test in front of an actual judge. This surely helped the kids prepare for the Regional Championships in Claresholm.

Cochrane Pony Club was well represented during these championships in Claresholm and our riders did very well in all disciplines offered.
On the Friday Holly and Eline won the D1 and D2 divisions of in hand and equitation. On Saturday Marguerite won the Training division dressage. This qualifies her for participation in the National dressage competition in 2016.In show jumping Eline won the 2'6" division and Brooke F. the 3'3" division. Cochrane Pony Club won the prize for best Stable Management during the three days the horses were stabled in Claresholm.

The Regional D rally did not get a lot of participants from the region. A total of 5 teams competed in Cochrane. Unfortunately the weather was bad and we had to move indoors. This meant that we could not do the cross country round. Instead we did a match the clock round indoors. The D Rally was won by a team from Springbank.

This year we also organize a PPG Playday. It was a lot of fun to have the kids play several games in combined teams.

We had 11 kids test up a level this year. Brooke F. achieved C2 level. Kathryn, Marguerite and Taylor got their C1 level. Eline tested to C level, Holly, Faith and Brooklyn tested to D1 level and Erik, Sasha and Cassia tested to D level. Congratulations everyone!

2014 year

It was great to see so many Cochrane Pony Club members at the Regional Quiz this year. 14 kids came to compete.
For many of them it was their first time at quiz, or their first time in a higher level. They all did very well and we are very proud of them.

Both in the Snurf division and the Junior division Cochrane got first place for individual competitors. In the Snurf division Keira got first place and in the Junior division Eline won first place. Other individual prices were for Faith in the Snurf division: third and Victoria in the Junior division: eighth

Faith and Paige were part of the Snurf team that won first place. The other Snurf team with Keira, Avery and Cassia unfortunately didn't win a prize this year, but I am sure they will get better as we come back next year!

Our junior team with Eline, Victoria, Niki and Chloe won third place. The Junior team with Peter, Gemma and Brooklyn got fifth place.

For both Kahtryn and Emily it was their first year in intermediate and they won fourth place with their team. Well done everyone!

This year Cochrane Pony Club organized the Regional D rally again. It was a lovely day for the competition.
This year we could count on the help of Jane Martin, as our TD. She did a great job with the kids and everybody had a good time.
The team from Springbank, again, won first place and Regan Todds, from the Springbank club was the best individual rider of the day.
We had a great time organizing this Rally and look forward to next year's Rally!

The regional finals for Alberta South were held in Claresholm again this year. A small group of riders from Cochrane attended this competition and they did well.

It is a long and exhausting weekend, starting with the in hand and equitation classes on Friday evening.
On Saturday we had the dressage classes, both the individual tests and the Pas de Deux tests. This year we also had an individual Kur by Victoria, nicely set to music and with awesome costumes.
Sunday is the last day, where we end with the jumping competition.
Our riders all did very well, despite some challenges for new horse and rider combinations. Hopefully next year we will see more competitors form Cochrane join.

October 5th we had seven riders testing up a level in their Pony Club levels.

Congratulations to Emily and Marguerite for achieving C-level, Eline, Mary and Victoria for achieving D2-level, Amber, Niki and Peter D1-level and Keira for moving up to D-level.

Way to go Cochrane Pony Club members!

July 27, 2013 - Regional D Rally

This year it was Cochrane's turn to organize the Regional D rally. Since we didn't have many kids sign up, we decided to combine the E and D Rally on one day.

It was a very busy day for all the competitors and the organizers, but everybody had a good day. With the help of our TD Sloan, we managed to get everything done in this one day.

It is a competition where the kids are judged on their mounted skills (in dressage, show jumping and cross country), but also in their care for their mount and a written test. The team from Springbank won first place and our own Kathryn was the best individual rider of the day.

We learned a lot from organizing this Rally and had a blast doing it. We look forward to next year's Rally!

Pictures of the Rally are posted on the 'photos' page.

July 15-19, 2013 - CPC Pony Camp

This year we again organized our traditional Pony Camp for all Pony clubbers in our region.

We had the same group of excellent instructors as we did last year: Sarah Langejans, Kathy Marstonk and Noel Clark. Daria Holden did the Stable Management with the kids.

The kids learned a lot in his week and had a chance to show of their abilities during the mini-rally on the last day of the camp.

June 9, 2013 - PPG Play day

Cochrane Pony Club organized a PPG play day for all the members of Pony Club Alberta South. We have invested in some PPG gear so that we can play a variety of games. It gives the kids an opportunity to goof around with their ponies, have a lot of fun with their friends and get used to each other and some 'scary' equipment.

It was good to see that so many kids decided to sign up and give this a try! Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. We could have the beginners do half their games, before the weather got really bad and we had to call it quits.

The kids still had a great time, and despite some unruly ponies the beginners all went home with a nice ribbon and a smile on their face. We hope to do it again some time this summer.

Pictures of the PPG play Day are posted on the 'photos' page.

April 13, 2013 - Regional Quiz

Cochrane Pony Club did very well during the Regional Quiz this year. One of our Junior teams managed to win first place!
Kathryn, Emily and Eline were teamed up with a girl form Pegasus, and they really hit it off together. Individually the Cochrane girls scored well too. Kathryn got a third place, Emily a fifth place and Eline a ninth place in the individual scores. That all contributed to a high team score!

For Victoria, Mary and Marguerite it was their first time competing in the junior division of the Regional Quiz. Despite that they did very well and hopefully it will be easier for them coming back next year.

Peter was our only competitor in Snurf this year and he did outstanding as well. After a fourth place in the individual rounds, his team also managed to get a first place in the team standings. Next year he too will need to move on to Junior.

February 13, 2013 - Olds College Farrier Program

We spend a great afternoon at Olds College. Dean Sinclair, the program manager of Farrier Science gave us an introduction to horse shoeing.

We started with a powerpoint presentation on why horses need shoeing and Dean showed us several shoes and how hey can help correct problems in horses.

After that he took us to the lab where he made a horse shoe from scratch and put it on one of the horses that was patiently waiting for a last shoe.

It was a great afternoon. Thank you Olds college for being so hospitable to us. We would love to see you again!

November 17, 2012 - Horse Health Day

The Equine Club of the University of Calgary, Veterinary Medicine organized a Horse Health day for members of Pony Club. It was good to see that so many members of Cochrane Pony Club came for the day to enjoy a morning session of lectures and an afternoon of hands-on sessions.

In the morning we learned about colic, vital signs, vaccinations and deworming, lameness and an emergency first aid kit. Both students and professors of the University gave us some well put together lectures.
In the afternoon we got a tour of the facility, which is a very nice, bright building and after that we did some hands-on stations. The kids could have a try at bandaging, feeling the intestines of a horse, taking vital signs, examining parasites and giving an orange a shot with a syringe. We also got some tips on how to massage our horse.

It was a great day and nice to see all those students, so enthusiastically sharing everything they know with our Pony Clubbers, some of whom will definitely be inspired to pursue a study in veterinary medicine.

Pictures of the Horse Health Day are posted on the 'photos' page.

October 28, 2012 - Funriders

Though it wasn't really a Pony Club activity, some of our members did participate in the fun riders series at the AG Society. Every month a gymkhana was organized, open to both Western and English and any other style riders. Lots of the games are similar to PPG games, like the weaving patterns and the stepping stones, others are typically Western, like the barrel races.

It was always great fun to meet different riders there. The last show was a little bit different from the others. It was Halloween oriented and therefore everybody came dressed up! A great way to end a year filled with games.

October 7, 2012 - Fall Trail Ride

Daria organized for the Cochrane Pony Club members another trail ride around her property. Unfortunately only a few members had time to come out this Thanksgiving Weekend, but it was a wonderful day. The weather was great and the trees still had a lot of their nicely coloured leaves on them.
With a group of seven we had a wonderful time out on the trail. We even encountered a group of elk and deer.
We finished the ride with a nice get together and a barbecue. Thanks a lot Daria for a great time!

September 1, 2012 - Testing

After a good season outdoors, the kids were all ready for testing up a level, or even two. Last Wednesday everybody passed their written test and today they got together to do the mounted part of the test.
Congratulations to all the riders. Everybody succeeded in their goals and are now proudly wearing their new colours!

Brooke T has tested up to C level, Kathryn, Wyatt and Brooke F to D2, Rowan, Taylor and Emily - D1, Amber and Victoria - D level and Hailey D level for riding and D1 level for stable management. Great job everyone!!!

July 24-26, 2012 - Finals Pony Club Alberta South

The regional finals for Alberta South were held in Claresholm this year. A large number of riders from Cochrane attended this competition and they did very well.
New this year was an in hand class on Friday and the Equitation class was on Friday as well.
On Saturday we had the dressage classes, both the individual tests and the many Pas de Deux tests. Everybody looked great and had some great accomplishments on this day. The costumes and music for the several Pas de Deux tests were awesome!
On Sunday we ended with the jumping competition. Here our riders did very well again and the Cochrane kids went home with a whole lot of ribbons and prizes! Well done everyone!

Pictures of the weekend are posted on the 'photos' page.

July 23-27, 2012 - Pony Club Camp

We have finished an awesome camp. The beginning of the week the weather was a bit disappointing, but the last two days were wonderful.
We had a great group of instructors: Kathy Marstonk, Noel Clark and Sarah Langejans. They taught the kids a lot about dressage, show jumping and cross country. As always, being able to go out on the cross country field is a big hit with the riders, especially going into the water jump.
Daria Holden did a great job in teaching the kids how to take care of their ponies during camp and all the other things they need to know when owning a pony.
We had the pleasure of two guest speakers: a vet and an endurance rider. Their presentations were very informative.
During the last day the riders were able to show off what they have learned in a mini rally.

Pictures of the camp are posted on the 'photos' page.

May 19, 2012 - 2012 show Jumping Series (3)

Today was our last show in the schooling show series.
We didn't have as many competitors as we did in April, but there were enough riders to be able to run all divisions.

We handed out High point awards to those competitors with the highest scores over at least two of our three shows.

Congratulations to Peter Ursem - trot poles, Brooke Fielding - 18 inch, Brooke Fielding - 2ft, Brooklyn Collard - 2ft 6 and Brooke Thome & Megan Rawn - 2ft 9!
They all went home with a grooming tote by courtesy of Greenhawk.

You can check out the high points here: High Points Results.

You can find pictures of our last show on our 'photos' page.

April 21, 2012 - 2012 Regional Quiz

We had 5 girls competing in the Regional Quiz in Delacour. All girls did great and can be proud of the way they represented Cochrane Pony Club.

Amy competed in the Intermediate level. Her team came in first place.
Kathryn, Emily and Eline formed a complete Junior team. This team was very good at the several team games, which earned them a third place in the team placings. Kathryn was the only one with an individual placing in Junior level, she came in third.
Victoria competed in the snurf level and came in second with her team and had a fourth placing in the individual rankings.
You all did a great job girls!

March 3, 2012 - 2012 Show Jumping Series

Today Cochrane Pony Club put on the first in a series of there show jumping shows for Pony club kids. Unfortunately we didn't get as many kids as we would have liked, but it gave us more time to walk the courses and have a stress free day. The kids all did very well. Even though some of them had some problems with their ponies, they all stuck with it and had some enormous successes in conquering their fears and horse-problems. Congratulations to all of you!

A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers that made the show a success, especially to Terry Clark who donated his time to judge the rounds and Daria who designed the courses for us and helped all those that need a little support. Well done! We're looking forward to our next show in April!

February 25, 2012 - Huntershow

The Cochrane Hunter shows were attended by three of our Pony Club girls. They had a lot of success showing of their wonderful ponies and everything they have learned about riding a well planned hunter course.

Kathryn was very successful in the 2 feet division and went home with the division champion ribbon. Taylor placed reserve champion in the same division. Kathryn also managed to score some ribbons in the 18 inch division, as did Eline in the 12 inch division! Well done all of you and success in the third and last show!

December 4, 2011 - 2011 Banquet

During our 2011 banquet we again awarded the ponyclub members for their achievements in the past year.
The girls that have been a member of ponyclub for three years or longer received a very nice plaque with their membership year-medals mounted on them.
Megan, Eline, Kathryn, Victoria and Jillian have each received one this year.

The prices that have been awarded for 2011:

  • Excellence award - Peter
  • Special Achievement D-rider - Brooke
  • Leadership awards - Emily and Deja
  • Most improved riders - Victoria and Wyatt
  • Positive attitude award - Katie
  • Stable management award - Kathryn
Of course all the other members also got to pick up a little price, so everyone went home happy.
A short overview of the motivations to award the different prices can be found here.

October 2, 2011 Trail Ride

We were lucky to have a wonderful fall day for our end of the year trail ride. Daria invited all pony club members to come to her place and have a ride around her property. The fall colours were absolutely wonderful this time of year.

Thanks to Daria and Sharon, everybody had a horse to ride and we headed out around 2 in the afternoon.
Both the pony club kids and the parents had a really nice ride through the country side. We even spotted some elk!
After about 3 hours we made it back to the house and had a nice pot luck barbecue together.

Thanks Daria for a wonderful ride!

August 21, 2011 Testing Day

The kids have been practicing hard for their testing day today. In total we had seven riders testing. All did very well and the examiners were very impressed with how they all rode. The written exam marks were all outstanding as well.
So congratulations to Cassidy for achieving C-level, Amy for D2 in Stable management and D1 in riding, Megan for achieving D2-level, Wyatt and Kathryn D1-level and Katie and Rowan for moving up to D-level.

Way to go Cochrane Pony Club members! Thank you to our instructors and to all the parents for helping the kids achieve their goals!

July 18-22, 2011 Summer camp

We had a wonderful camp this year.
The week started out crazy hot, but after that we had a great week. This year we had 26 participants, from Priddis, Sarcee and Cochrane. A great group of kids, that all got along well together.

Four knowledgeable instructors taught the riders a lot about dressage, show jumping, cross country and stable management. A big thank you to Heather, Shannon, Daria and Polly for making this camp so much fun for the kids. I know they had a blast, and boy, did they learn much!

Some highlights of this camp were definitely the water jump, making horse treats and just hanging out with friends and horses. Of course we also celebrated our fiftieth anniversary. It was an honour to have Millie Pratt cut the cake with us on Thursday evening!.

To get a feel of all the fun things we did during camp, our photos-page has lots of pictures. Go have a look!

June 4, 2011 - 2011 show Jumping Series (3)

Today was our last show in the schooling show series.
Even though the day started out cold and rainy, soon the sun came through and everybody had a great time. We enjoyed having you all out there!

We handed out High point awards to those competitors with the highest scores over at least two of our three shows.
Congratulations to Emily Taylor, Amy Kopp, Brooke Thome, Antonia DeClerq and Cayley Peltzer! They all went home with a bridle bag.
You can check out the high points here: High Points Results.

May 1, 2011 - 2011 show Jumping Series (2)

It was good to see some familiar faces back for our second show in the schooling show series. We welcomed about the same amount of competitors as we did for the last show.
We even had enough competitors to be able to run the rockets - Division, which means the jumps went up to 2'9", a respectable height.
Again it was a pleasure to have Nan Harrison judge all the kids and explain to them what the rules are and where they can improve.

Here are the congratulations from our coach Daria, which sum up all the successes our kids had:

  • Congratulations to Peter for trotting Aurora on a looser rein today and doing so well.
  • Congratulations Emily on sweeping the trot pole division. Nan must have been impressed with your progress.
  • Congratulations Katie on being so brave in spite of a bout of nervousness. You impressed me with your second round!
  • Congratulations Victoria on remembering the course when your Mom forgot and finishing all by yourself. We knew you could do it!
  • Congratulations Eline for entering her first real jumping division, having no refusals and trying harder each time to do better. Jumping from a canter is easier...you'll see.
  • Congratulations Kathryn on having such a good strong seat and such a good strong will with Buttercup today.
  • Congratulations Amy for having some really smooth jumping rounds. You've improved so much since last Summer, it's amazing!
  • Congratulations Megan on riding some really beautiful rounds on Aurora. The two of you looked effortless out there. Thank you too for helping coaching Peter during the warmup.
  • Congratulations Brooke on taking such good care of Chocolate when she was having a bad day. I honestly couldn't tell, and you had some really wonderful rounds.
  • Congratulations Cassidy for applying everything you learned in this week's lessons in your rounds. It was so wonderful to see Mick switching to the CORRECT lead all because of how you were balanced. You two have a bright future.
  • Congratulations Deja on placing so well in all your classes. You and Eric impressed everyone. And Mick was adorable too!
  • Congratulations to all the volunteers and parents who made this great day possible. The kids couldn't have done it without you.

We are very excited about our next show, which will be outdoors!

April 16, 2011 - Regional Quiz

Cochrane ponyclub sent one 'snurf' team to compete in the regional quiz (Eline, Jilian, Peter and Vicoria) and Brooke and Kathryn to compete in a Junior team. This year's regional quiz was organized by Prairie Rose Ponyclub. We had a long way to go, all the way to Coalhurst, so decided to come to the same hotel and have an enjoyable evening the day before. The kids had a blast in the swimming pool and were probably not very rested the next day when starting their quiz.

Theme for this years quiz was 'a day at the races', so we had practiced some racing terms. They came in handy, especially during the games part of the quiz.
Games they played this year were pictionary, charades, jeopardy, an alphabet game ('I'm going to the races and take with me...') and they had to recognize pictures taken very close up.

Our Cochrane Ponyclub Snurf team came in second (out of three teams). During the day our team was very concentrated, cooperative and had a blast. I'm very proud of them. The kids in the junior team ended in sixth place. Their group was a lot bigger (9 teams), and of course all the questions were a lot harder. They seemed to have enjoyed all the games as well, most of which were the same as the snurf games.

The individual portion of the quiz is a written test and a tack identification. Eline, Peter and Jilian came in fifth, sixth and eighth. In the junior division Brooke came in seventh.
It was a long, but successful day. I hope we'll send a sound representation to quiz next year again.

March 27, 2011 - 2011 show Jumping Series

The day didn't start out very well: it was very foggy and icy on the roads.
Luckily almost everybody showed up for the first show jumping show, Cochrane Ponyclub is organizing this year. We had about 30 competitors, competing in jumping, from trotpoles to 2 foot 6 inches. Thank you so much to everybody for braving those roads.

The day turned out to be a big success and everybody had a good time. Daria taught all the kids how to measure their courses and find that perfect line and if anybody needed some extra attention going through the course, she was right there to help them out. Our judge Nan Harrison did an awesome job and explained to everybody what was expected of them, or what they need to improve on.
All parents that helped out during the day: thank you so much Is was a real pleasure to see so many faces out there, willing to lend a helping hand. Maddison did a great job helping out our judge and announcing the winners of the different classes.
We are looking forward to our next show on May 1st.

January 23, 2011 - Horsing around

Fooling around during a riding lesson:

Casper and Precious wearing hats.

December 12, 2010 - End of year ride

It is a busy time of year for most of us, so for the last riding lesson in 2010 we decided to do something a little different. Everybody was invited to come at 10 am to do games instead of a riding lesson.
Two teams of three riders ended up competed against each other in a friendly way.
We played different PPG games such as the sack race and the sock race. We played musical stalls and musical cones and did the gymkhana games of pole bending and barrel race. It was a great morning and we ended it by having a snack, that some of the parents were so nice to bring. A good end to a very active ponyclub year.

Everybody a merry Christmas and hope to see you again in the next year!

November 7, 2010 - 2010 Banquet

During our 2010 banquet we re-introduced a nice tradition: awarding the ponyclub members. The girls that have been a member of ponyclub for three years or longer received a very nice plaque with their membership year-medals mounted on them. Cassidy, Brooke and Maddison have each received one.

The prices that have been awarded this year:

  • Excellence award - Cassidy
  • D-rally award - Megan, Eline and Kathryn, Brooke and Cassidy
  • Special Achievement D-rider - Kathryn
  • Leadership awards - Maddison and Brooke
  • Most improved riders - Erica and Eline
  • Positive attitude award - Jillian
  • Stable management award - Megan
Of course all the other members also got to pick up a little price, so everyone went home happy.
A short overview of the motivations to award the different prices can be found here.

October 2, 2010 - Cochrane Playday

To say goodbye to our outdoor season, we had a playday with all the members of the Cochrane Ponyclub. We started with a red-light, green-light game to warm up. Then it was time for a show jumping variant, gambler's choice, where the kids can decide on their own course and accumulate points by jumping as many and high a jumps as they can within a set time. In the afternoon we had a quiz, a braiding competition and we ended the day with mounted games. It was a lot of fun and the weather was great!

July 19 till July 23, 2010 - Cochrane Ponycamp

Cochrane ponycamp was a lot of fun this year again. Though the weather didn't always cooperate, there was a lot of time to ride and practice all the parts of a three day eventing tournament: dressage, show jumping and cross country.
It is always amazing to see how much the kids have improved at the end of this intensive week of riding and stable management.
This year we were able to visit the girls that were at an ABC camp at the Ag Society, and we were treated to a demonstration of polocross, very cool!
Thank you so much to Claire and Sandra for organizing this wonderful camp.

July 18, 2010 - D rally

Five of our members competed in the D rally, organized by Delacour Ponyclub. Eline, Kathryn and Megan were the first team and Cassidy and Brooke were part of another team. Amy and Deja were kind enough to help out our riders during the Rally.
The D rally consists of a written test, a dressage test, a cross country course and a show jumping round for all the girls. The kids did very well in dressage, but unfortunately the cross country course didn't end well for Kathryn, she fell and had to end her rally there. We are very happy she is ok though. The cross country course turned out to be a difficult course for a lot of kids, but they had fun participating though. Hopefully next year will turn out to be a more successful one.

April 17, 2010 - Regional Quiz

Cochrane ponyclub sent two teams to compete in the regional quiz, organized by Sprinbank and Wild Rose Ponyclub. Both Cochrane teams were competing in the 'snurf' category (kids under the age of 9).
They start of with a written test. Kathryn and Peter are our most successful members, they ended up in fifth and tenth place respectively. In the team competition they need to, among other things, play pictionary, charades and do a bridle race. The team with Eline, Kathryn and Reece ends in fifth place. A result to be proud of! The members from our second team, Jillian, Peter and Victoria didn't end up in the top 6, but still they had a lot of fun participating.
