Here are highlight placings at the second Central Ontario Region of Pony Club dressage qualifier for the Central Canadian Dressage Championships, held on Sunday, June 24, hosted by the Pause Awhile and Maple Pony Clubs. Details follow the highlights. Selection for the Central Ontario Dressage team, which will compete against teams from the Western Ontario and St. Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Regions, will be based on scores achieved at this meet and other qualifiers hosted by the Toronto & North York Pony Club on May 27, and by the Victoria Pony Club on July 15. This year, the Central Canadian Zone Championships are being hosted by the St. Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Region August 18-19.
At the Beginner 1 level, first place went to Kathleen Herbinson of the Tynedale Pony Club, riding Tynedale Mr. Eager Lee. Second place went to Christina Chamney, also of Tynedale, riding Tynedale Simmons, and Samantha Quinn-Steinberg of the Maple Pony Club was third aboard Let's Go Cowboy.
At the Beginner 2 level, Samantha Quinn-Steinberg took the honours, with Kathleen Herbinson second, and Jacqueline Salome of Tynedale third on Tynedale Pumkin.
The Beginner 3 winner was Jordan Thompson of the Durham Pony Club riding Brave Heart. In second place was Kylie Pinder of the Victoria Pony Club riding Let's Rhumba, and third place went to Sarah Kift of the Oshawa Pony Club on Rebecca.
In the Basic 1 class, Trevor Chandler of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club finished first, followed by Heidi Breen of the Tynedale Pony Club on Tynedale's Harry, and Jessie Barrieau of the Victoria Pony Club on Alfie in third place.
At the Basic 2 level, Trevor Chandler again took first place, and Casey Barton of the Victoria Pony Club finished second on Jim Dandy. Third place went to Larissa Grabowski of the Durham Pony Club riding Full Monty.
The Basic 3 winner was Megan Mattos of the Kawartha Pony Club riding Mayhem, with Larissa Grabowski second. Third place went to Beth Murray of the Durham Pony Club aboard Guenther.
Megan Mattos was the only entry at the Basic 4 level, and took first place riding against "the book."
Larissa Grabowski won the Basic 2 Kur and Julia McGill of the Durham Pony Club won the Novice Kur on D'Artagnan (both the only entries in their classes). The Maple team of Samantha Quinn-Steinberg, this time riding Powerful Purpose, and her sister Natalie riding Go For Gold, won the Pas de deux class, with another Maple team, Kate Evans riding Exponential and Kristin Mogg riding Autumn's Majestic, in second place.
