Here are highlight results from the third and final Central Ontario Region Show Jumping Qualifier, held on August 1 at Springfield Stables near Brooklin. Selection for the Central Ontario Show Jumping team, which will compete against teams from the Western Ontario and St. Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Regions, will be based on scores achieved at this meet and two other qualifiers. The team will be announced closer to the Zone Championships, when availabilities have been confirmed. This year, the Central Canada Zone Championships are being hosted by the St. Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Region on August 28-29.
In this show, three divisions of Pre-Entry level riders competed in two classes each, both single round plus jump-off, plus a warm-up round. Pre-Entry level riders do not qualify for the Central Canadian Championships. The higher divisions competed in three classes each, two single round plus jump-off classes and one speed class, to determine a Champion and a Reserve in each division. Highlights follow, with results to eighth place in each class after that.
Pre-Entry Division A-1
In Class1, first place went to James Cruikshanks of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club riding Target. Michael Nauta, another Uxbridge-Scugog rider, came second on Cocoa, and Alexandra Reynolds of the Kawartha Pony Club took third place on She's Like the Wind. James Cruikshanks was also first in Class 2, with Kylie Figueira of the Victoria Pony Club second on Go for Cool. Emma LeMay Nedjelski of the Ajax Pony Club took third riding Jalapeno. Champion was James Cruikshanks, Reserve was Emma Lemay Nedjelski.
Pre-Entry Division A-2
William Dow of the Pine Ridge Pony Club won Class 1 aboard Ava, with Kristen Cappelletti of the Ajax Pony Club second on Oreo Cookie. Third place went to Kaitlin Devoe, another Ajax rider, on Van Gogh. William Dow again took first planc in Class 2, with Bryn Jobb of the Brooklin Pony Club second aboard Springfields Clyde, and Kristen Cappelletti third. William Dow was Champion with Kristen Cappelletti the Reserve.
Pre-Entry Division B
In Class 1, Alexandra Kelly of the Victoria Pony Club took the honours riding Black Hat, with Jennalyn Webber of the Simcoe Pony Club second on Chili Pepper, and Emily Fox of the Kawartha Pony Club third on Fancy Pants. Jennalyn Webber and Chili Pepper won Class 2, with James Cruikshanks second, this time riding Molly Made. Alexandra Kelly and Black Hat took third. Jennalyn Webber was Champion and Alexandra Kelly was Reserve.
Entry Division (First Qualifying Level)
Johanna McKeen of the Oshawa Pony Club took first place in Class 1 riding Mya, with Sean Cruikshanks of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club second on Cennabar and Kate Hoppe of the Brooklin Pony Club third riding Beaverwoods Larkspur. Johanna McKeen and Mya also won Class 2, with second place going to Sam Elsenaar of the Ajax Pony Club aboard Cadbury, and Kate Hoppe again third with Beaverwoods Larkspur. Sean Cruikshanks and Cennabar won Class 3, with Lindsay Beer of the Centaurus Pony Club second on Ms Cassie, and Kiri Ipsen of the Ajax Pony Club third on Spice of Life. Johanna McKeen was the Champion and Sean Cruikshanks the Reserve.
Starter Division
In Class 1, the winner was Katelyn Powell of the Durham Pony Club riding Sundance, with Laura Parliament of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club second on Star, and third place going to another Uxbridge-Scugog rider, Jessica McVittie, aboard Merrylegs. Katelyn Powell and Sundance also won Class 2, with Jessica McVittie second, and Laura Parliament third. Katelyn Powell then swept the division by winning Class 3, with Dawn O'Neill of the Ajax Pony Club second on Natasha, and Erika Belanger, also of Ajax. third on Rainbow Connection. Katelyn Powell was the Champion with Laura Parliament in Reserve.
Beginner Division
Only two riders got through all three classes without being eliminated. Andrea Edwards of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club won Class 1 riding Alcatraz. Jessica McVittie was second, this time riding Rubix Cube. The order of finish was reversed for Classes 2 and 3. Jessica McVittie was Champion, with Andrea Edwards the Reserve.
Novice Division
There was only one entry in the Novice Division not eliminated. Julia McGill of the Durham Pony Club won all three classes riding D'Artagnan, and was Champion with no Reserve.
Intermediate Division
Once again only two riders got through all three classes without being eliminated. Megan Mattos of the Waussnodae Pony Club won all three classes on Sing Freely, with Katie Murray of the Durham Pony Club always second riding Jamane. Megan Mattos was the Champion and Katie Murray the Reserve.
