Here are highlight placings at the second Central Ontario Region of Pony Club dressage qualifier for the Central Canadian Zone Dressage Championships, held on Sunday, July 10, hosted by the Victoria Pony Club. Selection for the Central Ontario Dressage team, which will compete against teams from the Western Ontario and St. Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Regions, will be based on scores achieved at this meet, another qualifier on May 22 hosted by the Kawartha Pony Club, a third qualifier at Cedarlane on August 13, and also at recognized dressage competitions not sponsored by Pony Club. This year, the Central Canadian Zone Championships are being hosted by the Western Ontario Region on August 20-21. Details follow the highlight placings.
At the highest level for this show, Second Level, there was only one entry in each Division. Johanna McKeen of the Oshawa Pony Club riding Millgate Braveheart was the only entry in Division A. She rode "against the book" and achieved scores high enough for first place in both Test 1 and Test 2. Daina Brown of the Kawartha Pony Club on Moonwalker was the only entry in Division B. She, too, rode "against the book," placing third in Test 3 and second in Test 4.
In the First Level, the winner of both the Test 1 and Test 2 classes was Kayla Neil of the Durham Pony Club aboard Adara. Katie Stephenson of the Maple Pony Club riding Tybalt placed second in Test 1 and third in Test 2. Third place in Test 1 went to Jennifer McKeen of the Oshawa Pony Club on Colwyn Tegan, who placed second in Test 2.
Rachel Welsh of the Oshawa Pony Club riding Pippi Longstocking Pony Club was the winner of the Training Level Test 3 competition, with Madison Wilks of the Durham Pony Club second riding Mega Cool and Samantha MacDonald of the Uxbridge-Scugog Pony Club third on Heart of Gold. These riders finished in the same order in the Training Level Test 2 class.
The Pre-Training Test 2 class was won by Jennifer McKeen, this time riding Annie. Second place went to another Oshawa Pony Club entry, Erin Thompson aboard Everyone Loves Lily. Third place went to Kylie Figueira of the Victoria Pony Club riding Baltimore. In the Pre-Training Level Test 1 class, Erin Thompson and Everyone Loves Lily took top honours, with Rebecca Adrian of the Kawartha Pony Club second aboard Narhan's Gift. In third place was Jenna Scott of the Durham Pony Club, on Timbit.
In Starter Test 2, first place went to Rachael Goodman of the Whitchurch Pony Club riding Ladybug. Alana Eadie of the Simcoe Pony Club took second place aboard Monty. Third place went to Michaela Brown of the Kawartha Pony Club riding Cavalier. Rachael Goodman also won the Starter Test 1 class, with Nikki Ince of he King Pony Club in second spot on Lief Alaric and Alana Eadie third.
In the Entry Level Test 2 class, the winner was Maxime Weiss of the King Pony Club riding Moonlight. In second place was another King Pony Club entry, Emma Pasianotto riding Brandy, with Hilary Howran of the Kawartha Pony Club third on Mackeeba. Jennifer Pett and Thunder won the Entry Level Test 1, with Nikki Ince second, this time riding Fat Chance, and Janene Howran of Kawartha third on Zia's Tattered Lace.
This show offered several freestyle classes, which feature dressage performed to music.
In the Second Level Freestyle class, Johanna McKeen was again the only entry, and again her score was good enough for first place.
Stephanie Rutherford of the Baltimore Hills Pony Club won the First Level Freestyle class riding Falkenfels, with no second.
In the Training Freestyle class, Ilona Parenteau of the Toronto & North York Pony Club took first place on Anastasia, with Samantha MacDonald and Heart of Gold second, and Whitney Brennan of Uxbridge-Scugog third riding Karoo.
Rachael Goodman and Ladybug won the Starter Freestyle class, with second place going to Maxime Weiss and Moonlight, and third place to Alicia McCracken of Simcoe riding Dragon Lady.
The Uxbridge-Scugog team of Whitney Brennan and Samantha MacDonald won the Training Pas de Deux competition.
In the Starter Pas de Deux, King's duo of Maddy Lang on Summit and Nikki Ince on Lief Alaric took first place. Second went to another King team, Emily Banks-Ng on Fat Chance and Maxime Weiss again on Moonlight. These four King riders also entered as a Starter Quadrille team and placed first against the book.
