The Central Ontario Region of Pony Club held its second Prince Philip Games meet of the season on June 10 at Royal Lane Farm between Highway 12 and Lindsay, north of Highway 7. Highlight results are shown below, with complete order of finish for this meet and also cumulative results to follow.
In the A division, a mixed Victoria/Rising Star tam, the "Victorious Rising Stars" placed first in this meet but could not quite overtake the Uxbridge-Scugog "A-Team" in the cumulative standings.
The Rising Star "Thundering Hooves" took first in the B division, and also took over the lead in the cumulative standings, with a mixed Waussnodae/Arête de Chêne team second and the Simcoe "Chargers" third.
Temiskaming took the honours in the C division for this meet, and moved to within two points of first place overall. The Uxbridge-Scugog "Royal Lane Rockets" finished second at this meet but kept the cumulative lead. Third place went to a mixed Arête de Chêne/Victoria team.
In the Masters Games, for players 15 and older, the Uxbridge-Scugog "Black and White" team narrowly defeated their club-mates, the Uxbridge-Scugog "Cowboys" and also took the lead in the season standings. A team with members from the Durham, Temiskaming, Toronto & North York and Northwoods Pony Clubs, calling itself the "Not Uxbridge-Scugogs," finished in third spot.
The Prince Philip Cup Games are a team competition played by Pony Clubs around the world. Many of the Games require the riders and ponies to run a slalom course around a series of poles from one end of the playing field to the other, where they hand-off something to the next rider on their team. In some races, riders have to vault off of and onto their ponies.
The next meet in the regular season will be the Regional Finals on July 1. Points accumulate over the three meets, and competition at all levels is very close - the biggest margin enjoyed by any of the current first-place teams is seven points. The Regional A level winners go on to play for the Eastern Canadian Championship against teams from the Western Ontario and Saint Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Regions. The two top Eastern Canadian A level teams then play against Western Canadian representatives for the national championship in Alberta North Region September 1-2. There is also a National Masters Championship, to be hosted by Nova Scotia this year August 24-27.
