The Central Zone Prince Philip Games Championships will be held next Wednesday, July 29, at Royal Lane Farm between Highway 12 and Lindsay, north of Highway 7. Unfortunately the Saint Lawrence-Ottawa Valley Region will not be participating in this year's meet, but the competition between champions of the Central Ontario and Western Ontario Regions will still be hot. The two top Eastern Canadian A level teams then play against Western Canadian representatives for the National Championship, hosted this year by the British Columbia Lower Mainland Region. There is also a National Masters Championship, to be hosted by Central Ontario. Both national championships are scheduled for late August.
At the A level, Central Ontario will be represented by a combined Uxbridge-Scugog/Simcoe Pony Clubs team and a team from the Rising Star Pony Club. Their Western Ontario opponents will be teams from the Grand River Pony Club and the Guelph Pony Club. At the Masters level, the competition will feature Central Ontario teams from Uxbridge-Scugog and Durham, versus Western Ontario a team from Grand River and a mixed Guelph/London team. The A's and Masters are the fastest and most skilled players - sometimes amazingly so - making for an exciting competition.
The meet is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m., and spectators are welcome without charge (no dogs, please).
