Lesson plans are available for Stable Management and for Riding.

Stable Management Lesson Plans
Lesson 1
- Practical experience, stall work.
- Know use of all stable tools.
- Know about safety considerations in stable.
Lesson 2
- Know difference in feeding routine between stabled/grass kept horse.
- Know about feeding program for horse in working condition.
- Knowledge of feeding rules, reasons, recognition of good/inferior feeds.
Lesson 3
- Able to do complete grooming.
- Turn out well groomed horse - trimming/pulling mane & tail.
- Care of feet.
Lesson 4
- Knowledge of good and bad points of conformation.
Lesson 5
- Demonstrate knowledge of care of saddlery.
- Know correct fitting of saddle, bridle, numnah, martingales.
- Understand different types of girths, their uses.
- Understand different types of martingales, their uses.
Lesson 6
- Know types of wounds, their causes, how to treat, when to call the veterinarian.
- Put together a simple first aid kit and understand the uses of each item in it.
Lesson 7
- Learn locations, possible causes of limb unsoundnesses.
- Learn how to apply various treatments and when - hosepiping, poulticing, fomentations, tubbing, etc.
Lesson 8
- Learn about various skin diseases.
- Recognition of colic, laminitis, colds.
- Learn about treatment procedures.
Lesson 9
- Knowledge of good conditioning program - development of work/exercise program & related feeding program.
- Learn about care after work.
- Demonstrate use of stable bandage.
Lesson 10
- Be able to load, unload horse into trailer, van.
- Be able to prepare horse properly for travel - rugs, shipping bandages, tail bandage.

Riding Lesson Plans
Lesson 1
- Warm up exercises without stirrups at walk and trot.
- Alter stirrups, girth, mounted.
- Review position, aids at all paces.
- Turns, 20 m. circles at trot, canter.
- Review posting diagonals on serpentine.
- Trotting poles - gymnastic grids.
Lesson 2
- Warm up.
- Work on stronger trot - forward movement.
- Introduce turn-on-forehand - aids, purpose.
- Canter across diagonal, change leg through trot.
- Variety of small fences.
Lesson 3
- Warm up.
- Canter without stirrups, 20 m. circles.
- Review turn-on-forehand.
- Work on transitions from working to lengthened trot to working.
- Develop sense of rhythm, quality of paces.
- Variety of small fences.
Lesson 4
- Warm up.
- Cross country school - pacing 350-400 m/m.
Lesson 5
- Warm up.
- Introduce leg yielding at walk from quarter line to track.
- Work on transitions, all paces.
- Sitting trot, canter without stirrups.
- Small fences - maintain even pace between fences.
Lesson 6
- Warm up.
- Review turn-on-forehand, leg yielding at walk.
- Transitions on centre line - sitting trot to halt to sitting trot.
- Halt and salute.
- Lengthen trot rising - emphasis rhythm, quality.
- Jumping on a bending line (circle).
Lesson 7
- Warm up.
- Drill over X rails or small jumps.
Lesson 8
- Warm up.
- Independent work on horse: turns-on-forehand, leg yielding.
- Increase and decrease of pace (working-lengthen-working).
- Canter without stirrups.
- Review sequence of legs, all paces.
- Riding forward on long rein and on contact - walk and trot.
- Riding course to 3'.
Lesson 9
- Warm up.
- Cross country school.
Lesson 10
- Warm up.
- Work all paces without stirrups.
- Turn-on-forehand, leg yielding.
- Lengthen trot rising.
- Work on loose rein.
- Jump course to 3'.
