Following you will find a short list of acronyms, abbreviations and terms you may hear frequently as you become involved with this organization. It has its own lingo that may sound like gibberish to the uninitiated but makes great sense once you become comfortable with it.

Coach | An instructor | ||
Certified Coach | An instructor who has passed national standards in coaching knowledge and safety | ||
IOB | Instructor of Beginners: a certified instructor working on their coaching certificate | ||
HH | Hands High: a 4" measurement used in determining the height of a horse or pony | ||
Pony | An equine not exceeding the height of 14.2 HH | ||
Horse | An equine over the height of 14.2 HH | ||
Tack | The saddle, bridle and other equipment used in riding a horse/pony | ||
Stall | The space a horse lives in within its barn or stable | ||
Paddock | The fenced in area where the horse is contained outside the stable | ||
Green | Reference to a horse or rider who is limited in training/experience | ||
Farrier | Technician who looks after horses foot care and shoeing | ||
Vet | Veterinarian, an animal doctor who looks after our horses | ||
EVERY RIDE, EVERY TIME | A reference to our policy of wearing properly certified helmet at all times while mounted |
