Education and testing

Pony Club is all about teaching children skills in both riding and care of horses. At the Branch level Riding lessons and Stable Management lessons are offered to develop these skills. Alberta South Region also organizes clinics on a regular basis.

Testing is held to allow riders to demonstrate their skills as they progress through the levels offered by the National Pony Club. Though testing is not mandatory, it is encouraged by Pony Club to benchmark the rider's achievements.

Tests are held at a variety of clubs throughout the year and consist of a written portion plus a practical portion. During the practical portion the riders will demonstrate their ability to groom their horse and other aspects of horse care. They will also do a riding test.
Young riders can attempt to test up each year and over a period of many years can progress from the beginner E through to A, which demonstrates horse mastership and excellence in skills and knowledge. The examiners look for a gradual improvement both in theoretical and practical knowledge and skills.

When starting Pony Club, you a are considered an E-level rider.
The first level in Pony Club after that is the D Level, followed by D1 and D2. The C level test is the next one, followed by C1 and C2.
The tests up to C1 level are generally organized by the Branches and in the Alberta South Region, the C2 tests are organized by the Region.
The following B, B2 are also organized by the Region and require a National Examiner. The A level tests are done by our National Organization.
