Rally

Rally is an exciting competition that combines both riding and stable management. It is the perfect opportunity to show every aspect of horsemanship you have learned in Pony Club.

Rally is one of the competitions where you actually compete in teams. Teams are made up of 3 to 4 riders, a team Captain and a couple of Grooms. The Captain is normally an older Pony club rider, or another experienced horse person. They assist the competitors and keep the competition running smoothly. There is no parent help in Rally!

The scores of all team members are added to come up with a team score, but the riders are also judged individually and there will also be some prizes for individual riders.

Riding involves three phases:

  1. Dressage
  2. Cross Country (may include roads and tracks)
  3. Stadium Jumping

The points you accumulate during the three riding phases are added together to one total score. It means you have to be a versatile rider to be able to do well in this competition.

Stable management is also an important part of Rally, you can showcase good horsemanship during Rally and are judged on that as well.
To ensure a safe learning environment there are roving judges in attendance at Rallies to answer any questions, assess your practical skills, judge tack and turnout, and award bonus points for outstanding work!
Unmounted competitions and written tests are also included at some Rallies.

In Alberta South Region, there is usually one D Rally (for riders up to and including D2 level) and one ABC Rally (for riders C level and up) per year. Awards are given to teams and individuals for Riding and Stable Management.
